Our Ministry provides information below on prosecutions, convictions and acquittals under Saskatchewan's Labour Standards Act and Regulations for the current fiscal year (April 1, 2011 - April 30, 2012). 

Derek Connors, Director, o/a Parkland Heatsavers Inc,Yorkton, Saskatchewan (News Release)

  • Derek Connors, Company Director, operating an insulation business under the name Parkland Heatsavers Inc in Yorkton, Sask was charged in November 2011 with 3 violations of The Labour Standards Act by failing to pay employee final wages, including annual holiday pay within 14 days after the day on which the termination of employment took effect and failing to send employee final wage payment on time by Registered Mail.  
  • On March 12, 2012 Derek Connors pleaded guilty in Yorkton Provincial Court to 2 counts.  Fined $300.00 and a surcharge of $45.00 on each count.
  • Total fine: $690.00.
  • One additional charge under The Labour Standards Act against Derek Connors o/a Parkland Heatsavers Inc was stayed.

Jason Radbourne, o/a JCR Renovating & Bobcat Service, Langenburg (News Release - December 14)

  • Jason Radbourne operating a construction business under the name JCR Renovating & Bobcat Service in Langenburg, Sask was charged in September 2011 with 6 violations of The Labour Standards Act by failing to pay employee final wages, including annual holiday pay within 14 days after the day on which the termination of employment took effect and failing to send employee final wage payment on time by Registered Mail.
  • On December 5, 2011, Jason Radbourne pleaded guilty in Yorkton Provincial Court to 2 counts.  Fined $300.00 and a surcharge of $45.00 on each count.
  • Total fine: $690.00.
  • Additional charges under The Labour Standards Act against Jason Radbourne were stayed.

Mr. Steve Best O/A Queen City Pizza and Pub, Regina (News Release - September 27)

  • Steve Best, a partner operating a restaurant under the name Queen City Pizza & Pub in Regina, Sask was charged in 2010 with 8 violations of The Labour Standards Act by failing to pay employee final wages within 14 days after the day on which the termination of employment took effect.   
  • On September 16, 2011, Steve Best pleaded guilty in Regina Provincial Court to 1 count.  Fined $200.00 and a surcharge of $50.00.
  • Total fine: $250.00.
  • Additional charges under The Labour Standards Act against a Company Director remain before the Court.

Sunbird Enterprises, Saskatoon (News Release - August 19)

  • On August 8, 2011 accused plead guilty to 12 charges including but not limited to: failure to pay wages; failure to keep and to deliver payroll records for inspection; and issuing an NSF cheque.
  • Total fines: $5,400.

 

It’s A Blast, World of Play Inc, Regina (News Release July 27)

  • Charged on June 23, 2011 for one count of failure to provide payroll records upon demand by a Labour Standards Officer.
  • On July 22, 2011 the company pleaded guilty. Fined $250.00 and a surcharge of $60.00.
  • Total fine: $310.00.
