Minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety

Young people need more than a job to be Ready for Work.

They need to know their rights and responsibilities, and about standards for health, safety and fairness in the workplace.

Our Ministry developed the Ready for Work program in partnership with the Ministry of Education. The program is an integral component of our ministry’s strategy to increase awareness and understanding of what constitutes a safe, healthy, fair, cooperative, representative and productive workplace.

Why is the Ready for Work program important?

More than 8,000 young workers (15-24 years old) are injured each year in Saskatchewan. One in four workplace injuries reported to the Workers’ Compensation Board involves a worker under 25 years of age. Young workers are also more likely to experience unfair working conditions than older workers.

On average, three young people in Saskatchewan die on the job each year, with three main causes attributed to:

  • Minimal knowledge of rights and responsibilities.
  • Lack of experience in recognizing hazardous situations.
  • Lack of supervision or training.

Are you a young person entering the workforce?

Then use these Ready for Work resources to help you make informed choices about your working conditions and to prevent injury to yourself and others in the workplace.

We also have resources to help educators, employers and parents.

These Ready for Work resources are intended to help young and new workers know their rights and responsibilities, so they can protect themselves in the workplace and ensure safe and fair work experiences.
The Ready for Work program information provides teachers and educators the resources and tools needed to help young people learn what it takes to stay safe and to have healthy and fair experiences in the workplace.
These Ready for Work resources are intended to help employers ensure the workplace where young individuals work is healthy, safe and fair and that they are properly trained and supervised.

These Ready for Work resources are intended to help parents support young workers enter the world of work.
